Scoring & Weight Calculation Model
Learn exactly how 5-star ratings, category weights, and overall weighted safety scores are calculated across all ranking lists.
How Scores Are Calculated (Step-by-Step)
1. Criterion Average Score
For every single criterion (e.g. 100% Dedicated GF Kitchen or Staff Allergen Training), we calculate the simple mathematical average of all user ratings submitted for that specific item.
2. Category Weighted Average
Criteria are grouped into categories (e.g. Facility & Safety). Each criterion carries a specific weight within its category. The category score is the weighted average of its criteria scores.
3. Overall Safety & Quality Score
Finally, each evaluation category has a category weight (e.g. Facility Safety 60% and Product Variety 40%). The overall score is the weighted average across all categories, producing a final score between 1.00 and 5.00 stars.
Simple Worked Example
Consider evaluating a gluten-free bakery called "Manna Dew" with 2 evaluation categories:
Category A: Facility Safety
Weight: 60%- • Dedicated GF Kitchen (weight 60%): Rated 5.0 ★
- • Staff Training (weight 40%): Rated 4.0 ★
- Category A Score = (5.0×60% + 4.0×40%) / 100% = 4.60 ★
Category B: Product Variety
Weight: 40%- • Fresh Pastries (weight 50%): Rated 4.0 ★
- • Pricing Value (weight 50%): Rated 3.0 ★
- Category B Score = (4.0×50% + 3.0×50%) / 100% = 3.50 ★
Final Score Result for "Manna Dew"
Overall Score = (Category A: 4.60 × 60%) + (Category B: 3.50 × 40%) = 2.76 + 1.40 = 4.16 ★
